Communicating absenteeism
Student absences from school should be reported by written note, phone call, email, text message to school mobile or on Absence line prior to 9am. Unexplained absences be followed up by the administration team via text message from the school at 9:30am on the same day. Letters are sent home every fortnight to follow up unexplained absnces.
Regular attendance at school is very important for all students. A full record of student attendance is maintained and reported on the student report card.
Communicating medical concerns
Medication, prescribed by a doctor or dentist may be administered to students by school staff. It is necessary to complete the medication form available from the office. The medication must be sent to the school office in its original prescription container and administered according to the doctor’s instructions. Staff are unable to administer over the counter medications such as Panadol, Nurofen and herbal Supplements if we do not have the medical forms filled in by the parent for the medication.
DoE regulations prohibit students carrying their own medication to school. We require parents to deliver medication to the school office and collect after school or before weekends as needed. A person authorised by the principal may administer medication, provided it is given strictly in accordance with instructions written on the medication container by the pharmacist. Pharmacists will provide additional containers upon request.
A school register is kept of all medication issued. Non-prescribed medications should not be brought to school and will not be administered by school staff.
Students with severe medical conditions eg. diabetes, epilepsy, anaphylaxis, long QT, severe asthma etc. need to submit a detailed health plan prepared by a medical professional.
Communicating a willingness to volunteer
Volunteers are welcome in our classrooms through negotiation with the class teacher, in the Tuckshop to support the P&C coordinator and at school fundraising events. All volunteers must sign in through the office. At times, the school and P&C request support via email or volunteersign up sheets.
Communicating about academic progress and concerns
School-home liaison is facilitated through:
- parent-teacher afternoons held at the beginning of each school year to inform you of curriculum, school and class expectations
- curriculum newsletters for each class at the beginning of each term
- student profiles in student diaries
- end of semester written reports
- regular parent-teacher interviews available at the end of Term One and upon request and negotiation with the teacher.
We encourage parents to email teachers if there is concerns regarding their child's academnic progress.
Communicating about changes to after school arrangements
It is appreciated that all parents could make clear to students their general end of day procedure. This includes mode of transport home or other after school arrangements, and who will be collecting them and at which location. Unexpected changes to school pick up should be communicated by a phone call or text message to the office in a timely manner to ensure your child is aware of the change. Similarly, if you require your child to be collected from the office for an unexpected appointment please allow enough time for the class to be located and your child brought to the office. The administration team collect general information about collection routines from students at the start of the year.
Communicating about a change of contact details
Please keep your contact details up to date by keeping the administration staff informed if you change phone numbers, emergency contacts or work details or address. Complete a change of details form provided by the office. In particular, it is useful for us to have a current email address and phone number on file to assist with direct and timely communication to you.
Communicating parenting arrangements
If your child becomes the subject of a parenting agreement or formal custody order, it is imperative that you provide a copy of these documents to the administration team and make an appointment to share the implications for your child. We keep a copy of these documents on file and inform the class teacher of the arrangements. We work with you and the relevant authorities including Child Safety and Queensland Police to ensure these orders are followed. However, we can only do this effectively if documents on file are kept current and any changes are shared immediately with us.
